A unique guitar style, based on the purity of folk, fitted into a modern scenario.

Vincent Pino

Venezuelan born guitarist Vincent Pino is based in Amsterdam where he performs and composes musical scores for films, documentaries, and theatrical performances.

Vincent’s guitar style joins the purity and simplicity of Folklore with Jazz, Blues and the complexity of contemporary improvised music.

In Amsterdam, Vincent plays with bands including Supercity, Superinca (including Ibelisse Guardia Ferragutti, Oscar jan Hoogland & Frank Rossaly), his own Cepa and numerous others sitting in as a session guitarrist. In 2018 he formed Pino & The Hotsie Totsies, a swing jazz band that played mainly Swing Bat Lindy Hop dance events and dance workshops.

He has composed the musical scores for various Dutch documentaries (Shout!, Koning Malik, Africa naar Assen, and De man die ales kan) among others, as well as for the theatrical hit 100% Amsterdam.

Most recently, Vincent participated as a guitarist and co-arrangist for the Rotterdam Theater’s dance production of Alida Dors’ PRIMISI. From March to October of 2022, he toured and performed with the ensemble across The Netherlands, with over 30 presentations.

Well-travelled music

Vincent started playing guitar at the age of eight. His first formal music theory lessons took place in ‘Juan Jose Landaeta’ Conservatory of music where he was also formed as a popular\Classical guitarrist, he furthered his studies at ‘IUDEM’ School of modern harmony in Caracas Venezuela, and finally attending ‘Ars Nova’ a small private music school dedicated to teaching traditional Jazz and modern Harmony. As he grew up, he spent time living in Philadelphia, USA before returning to Caracas, Venezuela. Aside from his father, early South American influences include the Cuatro player Freddy Reyna, and violinist & luthier Pablo Canela, Andres Segovia, Francisco Tárrega, Hector Villalobos, Isaak Albeniz, Mozart, J.S. Bach, Ravel, Chopin and Rachmaninov among all blues greats from the era of the 1920’s, 30’s, 40’s such as: Blind boy Fuller, Blind Willie McTell, Robert Johnson, Lowell Fullson, Muddy Waters, Tampa Red, BB King, Freddy King, Albert King just to name a few. It would be senseless to not mention Vincent’s love and obsession with the great Jimi Hendrix.

Not leaving aside his Jazz influences including Eddy Lang, Carl Kress, Dick McDonough, George van Eps, Freddie Greene, Wes Montgomery, Tal Farlow, Tiny Grimes, Charlie Christian and Allan Reuss. Vincent has also spent time listening to European classical music, becoming particularly inspired by baroque and modern impressionist composers.

Vincent attended the Conservatory of music in Utrecht in 2001 for Jazz guitar and general music theory.

"CEPA" OUT NOW!

"CEPA" OUT NOW!

Cepa (meaning Tree root) Is Vincent’s new ensemble with a new album release which compiles heartfelt interpretations of traditional tonadas and waltzes from Venezuela’s music. A beautiful rendition of deeply emotional yet minimalistic compositions from artists Pablo Canela & Simón Díaz among others, that have receded, almost lost in the consciousness of another era.

The album draws inspiration from several musical worlds that reflect Vincent’s roots: Venezuelan tonadas and waltzes with Electric driven guitars. Cepa’s sound was conceived by joining these two styles of music with Vincent’s trademark guitar sound, which characterizes in push but full using the full potential of a point to point handwired tube amp, effect pedals and feedback in a melodic way, so as to explore a new approach to playing this autochthonous music. The official release of this Album will be announced soon! Stay tuned.
